“You don’t think it’s too soon? This is only her third day after all.”
“From what I have seen, I think she would jump at the chance. She seems very career driven.”
“What is it about Miss Swan that intrigues all you accountants?” Jacob mused, smirking. “It’s not like you to be all hot and bothered over a female.”
“Surly you can’t deny how beautiful Miss Swan is,” I lied; hot and bothered over Bella didn’t even begin to cover what I was feeling.
“No, you’re right; I suppose I could ask. It’s not like I would force her into accompanying me. I could even buy her a cocktail dress as an apology for the short notice.” I studied Jacob’s face, feeling my heart deflate a little. This was more than a business dinner to him; I could see the hope in his eyes.
“You seem a little hot and bothered yourself Jacob,” I commented, crossing my arms.
“She is a stunning woman, Edward. I have to admit I am a little taken with her.” I tried to keep my composure. I had to face the facts: I could never be with Bella. In three months, I would be miles away from this world. Who better to protect and love her than Jacob Black? He could give her everything I couldn’t.

“And you think it’s the accountants she has bewitched.” I tried to force a laugh. Jacob shook his head at me before I left.
When I was safely in my office, I let my emotions take over. I plunged my fist into my hard concrete wall. Once: for having to let another try to steal Bella’s heart from me. Twice: for knowing that no matter how much I loved her, I couldn’t stay. Three times: for realizing that no matter how many miles I put between us, I would always love and want her for eternity.
This was the torture I had to endure to keep her safe. I had no other choice.

Denial
I spent the whole weekend with Bella. I knew I was being irresponsible, but I couldn’t keep away. Why try fighting, when I knew I had already lost?
I needed to be near her like the oxygen I breathed. I knew I only had so much time left with her. I just had to be sure I didn’t confuse her feelings or destroy my own heart in the process.
Nothing could be more heavenly than her beautiful body, feeling her moan under my touch. It was all I could think about as I drove to work. Bella would never know just how close I came to claiming her again this weekend. Luckily, I had been strong enough to resist, this time at least.
I knew weekends like that couldn’t be a regular occurrence. I only had so much will power after all. If Bella kept breaking down my defences with her love and beauty, at some point I knew I would crumble.
I was the first in the office that morning. I knew I had to check my emails and get a progress report from Carlisle. I hadn’t spoken to him in over a week which wasn’t like me. I knew he liked me to check in at least once a week.
While I was dialling his number, Jacob strolled into my office with the largest grin I had ever seen on his face.
“I am so glad you decided to come in early Edward.” Jacob smiled, taking a seat in front of my desk. “I have so much to talk to you about.”
“If it’s about the Clifton file, I’m working on the spreadsheets right now,” I lied, putting my phone down. My call to Carlisle would have to wait a little longer.
“I want you to come to Virginia Beach with me next month for my yearly client gathering.”
“Why me, Jacob? Wouldn’t Sam be a better choice?” I didn’t have time for all that crap.
“Not for what I have planned,” Jacob smirked at me. “I had the most amazing night with Miss Swan on Friday.” I tried to look uninterested as I turned my computer on. I couldn’t let Jacob see the pain in my face. Any man could easily fall in love with Bella. I had always known that. “You have to help me Edward. I’ve never had these feelings before. She looks up to you. I can see how Bella admires you. The way she looks at you sometimes is as if she has known you all her life. I want that. I want to mean something to her.” His voice was pleading.
“I don’t know what you expect me to do, Jacob, I hardly know the girl.” I lied.
“She seems at ease with you.” Maybe Bella was right. We needed to be a little more careful at work. If people could already see the connection after four days, I must have been making my feelings for her a little too clear.
“I’m not some matchmaker Jacob,” I stressed, looking at him directly. “I have work to do. It’s not like I see her outside of work. I had lunch with her, once. That’s all.”
“Why did you take her to lunch?”
“I felt sorry for the girl. Tanya was being a bitch, so I had a little pep talk with her.”
“All I’m asking is for you to find out if she likes me. She is an employee. I don’t want to embarrass myself by making my intentions clear if she doesn’t feel the same way.”
“You are asking a lot of me.”
“I thought we were friends as well as work colleagues.”
“Bella might not even admit her feelings for you to me.”
“Is this because you like her too? If you want to make a play I don’t mind. May the best man win.” Jacob’s tone seemed teasing, as if he thought I didn’t stand a chance against him. It pissed me off a little. I wanted to tell his smug face that Bella was already in love me, that I was letting him try to steal her heart from me to keep her safe. I knew I couldn’t though. Too much was already at risk.
“No,” I laughed, trying to sound convincing. “I leave in four months. Why on earth would I want to be tied down by a woman?” The truth was, I would have happily let Bella chain me in shackles for eternity if I could keep her safe by my side.
However, my history of keeping loved ones safe wasn’t good. I wouldn’t allow Bella that same fate.
“Don’t remind me,” Jacob huffed. “I can’t believe you turned down my offer to stay.”
“Okay, I’ll do it.” I breathed, pinching the bridge of my nose.
“You’ll stay?”
“No,” I laughed. “I’ll try to find out how Bella feels about you.”
“Wonderful!” Jacob clapped his hands together. “If you could find out before we go to Virginia Beach, that would be great.”
“Why?” I asked, watching Jacob get up to leave.
“I want to sweep Bella off her feet while she stays at my Virginia Beach apartment.” I hoped my mouth didn’t drop open. That could only mean one thing. “Miss Swan is coming with us of course.”

“Bella?” Carlisle said her name like a question.
“Yes, Bella,“ I stressed, pulling on my hair.
“Please tell me you didn’t go searching for her, Edward. You know I need to know every move you make. I can’t watch out for you if you aren’t being truthful.”
“Carlisle, I didn’t. Bella got a work placement at Cetra Black. I was just as shocked as you to find her there.”
“What did you tell her?”
“Nothing.” I whispered, looking away from his gaze.
“Nothing at all?” Carlisle asked in disbelief.
“Where would I even start?” I winced.
“You’re still in love with her, aren’t you?” Carlisle muttered patting my shoulder.
“Yes,” I whimpered, dropping my face into my hands. I could hear the click of heels and as I looked up I saw Esme looking down at me.
“Your complication is Bella?” Her voice was bewildered as she sat next to me, taking my hand in hers.
“I don’t know what to do. I love her so much Esme. All Bella keeps talking about is wanting to help me. I can’t let her do that. If she knew the truth she would hate me.”
“How do you know that?” Esme raised her eyebrow at me. “I told you three years ago: Bella is a strong girl. I know you thought she was too young to know the truth, but you should have given her the choice.”
“I wasn’t going to bring Bella into this life, Esme.” I smiled sadly.
“I don’t think you have a choice this time Edward. Bella has a right to choose. I know you can’t tell her the whole truth until she decides, but you can at least tell her some facts.” I looked towards Carlisle.
“Esme is right Edward. There are certain facts you can’t share until Bella decides to come with you, but you can tell her some of the truth.”
“Being in witness protection for the rest of my life isn’t something I am proud of. Why would Bella want to join me?” I glared.
“She loves you.” Esme smiled, squeezing my hand. “You can’t live your life alone just to keep her safe. That isn’t your decision Edward. You have to let Bella make up her own mind.” I knew Esme was right, but I already knew Bella would follow me anywhere. I had seen it in her eyes.
“What if she regrets the choice she makes years down I line? I can’t look her in the eyes year after year knowing there is nothing I can do about it.”
“It will be worse leaving her again, knowing you never had the strength to ask her what she truly wanted,” Esme replied. “Let her in Edward. I think Bella will surprise you.”
I exhaled knowing Esme was right. Bella wasn’t some young teenage girl anymore. That had been clear the first moment I laid eyes on her again. It was as if I was seeing the sun again for the first time in three years. Bella was the most beautiful creature I would ever lay eyes on. I wanted her in my life, by my side for eternity. What other choice did I have but to allow her a glimpse in to my world? I had to allow myself to love her. My defences were breaking week by week. I had very little fight left in me. I could concentrate on simply being with Bella. We could work out the rest when the time came.
And, if my some miracle Bella wanted to stay with me in three months, who was I to deny her?
Esme was right. That decision was Bella’s alone.
“So, Edward?” Carlisle asked. “Are we allowed to tell the others about Bella?”
“No,” I replied firmly. “No one else is going to influence her decision.”
“Edward, you have to stop beating yourself up about the past,” Esme whispered.
“That’s easy for you to say. You’re a good person, Esme.” I smiled sadly.
“You are a good person, too.” I snorted at that. Esme was wrong. “It wasn’t your fault. Bree knew what she was getting involved in.”
“ESME,” Carlisle scolded her as he watched the blood drain from my face. I didn’t want to hear that name. Not right now. I wasn’t sure I would ever get over her name. “Edward doesn’t need that right now.”
“I’m sorry Edward. I wasn’t thinking,” Esme whimpered getting up. “How about a coffee?”
“I think that’s a good idea,” Carlisle snapped getting up to look out the window. “I think we need to move soon. You shouldn’t have used a plane Edward. You know how easy you are to trace that way.”
“I just needed to get away,” I muttered watching Esme turn the kettle on. This motel was a little more upscale than the usual ones we stayed in.
“And what are you plans now?” he asked, turning to me while he crossed his arms.
“To open up to Bella, as much as I can.” I sighed in defeat. “I don’t think I have any other choice.”
“I’ll make the necessary arrangements.”
“Just keep her safe, Carlisle. That’s all I ask.” I begged.
“Bella couldn’t be any safer than with you by her side,” Esme called. I hoped she was right, but I couldn’t hide from the fact that for my entire life, all I had ever done was let the ones I loved the most down.

Jacob was still grinning as he took his seat behind his desk.
“Is something amusing Jacob?” I asked, sitting opposite him at his desk.
“I knew Miss Swan had gotten to you.”
“I really don’t think my personal life has anything to do with you,” I snapped. What Bella and I did outside work was none of his business.
“Even if I was considering making her your senior PA?” I looked at him blankly. “Edward, Bella is a beautiful woman, but I only pursued her to piss you off.”
“You did what!?”
“I want you to extend your contract with my company.”
“Jacob,” I complained.
“Extend for only for six months to begin with. I know you have your plans but you and Bella could be unstoppable. I watched the way the pair of you were networking in Virginia Beach. You had my top clients in the palms of your hands.”
I stopped to collect my thoughts. Bella and I would be working together on every single client case. I couldn’t turn that down.
“So Bella would be my PA. I wouldn’t have to share her with anyone?” My dick twitched at that thought. I was so fucking whipped.
Jacob grinned at me. “Yes, Miss Swan would be all yours.”
“And you’re not bothered that we are in a romantic relationship?”
“I couldn’t be happier.” Did I trust Jacob? His eyes seemed to be telling the truth.
“You will need to ask Bella first.” I would let Bella make the decision. It might be too much for her working so closely with me.
“I was going to call her into my office after I finished with you.”
“You really had no intentions of perusing Bella?” I asked raising my eyebrow. “What if she had been interested in you?”
“It was clear she only had eyes for you from day one, Edward.” Jacob laughed. “I’m a business man.” I looked at him confused. “I think Bella Swan is your weakness. I am pretty sure you won’t be able to leave her in four months.”
Jacob had no idea how right he was. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to leave her. I knew it was wrong. I was pulling her into a dangerous world but I loved her. I could never give Bella up a second time. If Bella decided be with me, I wasn’t going to stand in her way.
“I guess only time will tell.” I smirked getting up.
“I am always right Edward.”
“I’m not saying you are wrong, but its early days.”
“Are you seeing her this weekend?”
“I’m planning on taking her away,” I grinned. I was a little smug. My whole body was on fire thinking about what I could finally do to Bella. Three years without her left my mind to wander in many directions.
“I so have this in the bag,” Jacob laughed.
“I better get to work,” I replied, shaking the imagines of a naked Bella out of my mind.
“Edward,” Jacob called as I reached for his door handle. “Are you driving this weekend?”
“Yes.” I couldn’t take Bella away by plane it was too dangerous.

“So long as you can handle her.” Jacob had no idea just how well I could handle his sports car.
“Thanks. I think I will take you up on that.” Suddenly, I could hardly wait to take Bella away.
Once the weekend was over, Bella would have no doubt of just how much I loved her. I knew it would also be past the point of no return. There would be no going back for either of us. I would be Bella’s for eternity, whether she wanted me or not.
I wasn’t as scared at that thought this time. I knew Esme was right. I could keep Bella safe; I had the resources. Maybe this was my time for happiness. How else could I explain Bella stumbling into my life again? All I could do was embrace it. Things would work out. Bella would understand once I told her the truth?
I knew I was fooling myself. I had no idea what Bella would do once she knew my whole past. The weight was like a ticking time bomb on my back. Once it all came out, it would destroy everything.
I pushed that to the back of my mind. I had two months until that day but I knew I had to let Bella in somehow, tell her what I could. It would make the truth that much easier when the time came.

“Edward, you and Jacob take Bella home. I’ll sort the cops out and give them your information,” Sam called. I didn’t need to be told twice.
“Is she okay?” Jacob asked.
“I think it’s the shock. She’s passed out like this before, but she might of hit her head this time,” I stressed, looking down at her.
By the time we made it to Bella’s apartment, she was stirring. The relief I felt as she opened her eyes was staggering.
“Bella,” I breathed. “Thank God. What were you thinking? I can’t believe you left the club alone.”
“You were mad at me.” Of all the things she could say, I didn’t expect that. Why did she think I was mad at her? I knew it had been the alcohol talking earlier. It just shocked me that she would hurt me that way, but the moment I stormed off, I regretted it. I went to find her five minutes later, which was when I panicked, realising she had left.
“Jacob has already called his doctor. He’s coming to check you over. How is your head? Do you feel dizzy?” I could tell I was asking too much; my love looked completely flustered. “And, I wasn’t mad at you.” I smiled, holding her closer to me. How could I ever be mad at my beautiful siren?
She was all that mattered to me.

The Wedding -Chapter 37
“What is that?” I asked.
“You’ll see,” Edward breathed, touching my hand.
I was speechless as we pulled up toward the gates. Edward stopped the car, stepped outside, and entered a code to open the gates.
“Are you ready for your surprise?” Edward beamed, climbing back in the car.
“I’m not sure,” I muttered nervously. What was he playing at?
My eyes fell on a beautiful, small lake house, standing alone in the distance. The moonlight shone a clear white path across the lake, reflecting its beams against the small, idyllic house.
“I thought this would be more to your liking, Mrs. Cullen,” Edward teased, scooping me up bridal style.
